The headquarters building of GHC School - Center for Technological Education and Health Research of Grupo Hospitalar Conceição - brings together all the school’s activities in a single structure, improving the infrastructure for installing new and modern equipment and enabling the expansion of current activities.
This provides relevant contributions to health advancements in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, as Grupo Hospitalar Conceição’s services are 100% focused on the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). The site has a sharp-angled corner, so from the beginning of the project, efforts were made to occupy it without creating barriers.
Approaching the corner from either Av. Grécia or Av. Francisco Trein provides a wide open visual field, enhancing safety and making the route much more pleasant. Additionally, for those in a hurry, it’s possible to take a shortcut through the school’s access square.
This covered access square, slightly elevated in relation to the ground level at the corner, separates heavy traffic from pedestrian access. It creates not only an access area but also a public square that can be used by the entire population. The ground-floor cafeteria also utilizes this covered square, making it a place for students and teachers to gather.
The project includes an auditorium, library, classrooms, laboratories, administrative and support areas, as well as study spaces and a terrace. These spaces are distributed across seven floors, plus one technical floor.
The building incorporates numerous sustainability features, such as solar protection on the facades to reduce energy and air conditioning consumption, natural ventilation and lighting maximized, green roofing, rainwater harvesting, all-LED lighting, and automation and monitoring of all systems. This promises a high level of energy efficiency and advanced resources for controlling building use and maintenance.
